THAMES VALLEY HOODS

An area group of the RHOCaR club - all things Robin Hood Kit Cars

October '06 Report

Hi All,

Many thanks to all who made it to the monthly meet last Wednesday despite grim weather for the second meet in a row. One again we filled a room and much discussion was possible without having to  compete for volume with  TV football or pool table and  bar juke box.
Hopefully November will bring a clear dry night more conducive to Hoods  than tintops.

Compliments to Steve Goodchild on being '' Mr October''  in the Rhocar calender which features his 2B as the main picture.

We had good feedback from those who attended the Classic and Sports car event in Thatcham,  where Pete and Dave Cherry in their Hotrod and Dax respectively,  and Steve Goodchild in his 2b, accompanied by Danny Aldridge , attended following a late appeal for entries from the organisers.  They were well received and I am told we should expect to see an article soon  in  ''Classic and Sportscar'' magazine.
I shall be in touch with the organisers to get a formal invite to the 2007 event.

We learned of the progress being made by Graham, 'Minty'  Mintram in the rebuild of his 2b since the unfortunate Torvill and Dean experience of doing the Bolero on ice,  and bending it out of shape.  He tells me he is now fitting the hood,   so its either  nearly done Graham, or you are building it in reverse order !!  Nothing like doing it the hard way. !      We look forward to seeing you back behind the wheel again Minty.

Much support was rendered from fellow members to Trevor,   the man behind the topic of the year for the robinhood community.   His  failure at SVA for structural and design issues on his Lightweight, has been much-discussed on the Rhocar forum,  and not always to Trevors liking, as the parent company failed to quash suggestions that Trevors own build quality was partly to blame.  Well the SVA failure sheet doesn't imply that, and with one previous successful build project to Trevors credit, I don't believe it either.     He will be building a Sylva Mojo as his next project  ( rear engined, XR2 powered, 450kg, seven styled car ) and will be keeping us posted on his progress at future monthly meets. [  He has a full 2b Plus kit for sale, with all donor parts ,   since deciding on the Mojo instead of another Robinhood build,...its on ebay now, so contact him direct,  or me if you need to ,    if you are interested in possibly the last 2b kit to leave the RHSC company. }

Totalkitcar Live was held at Brands Hatch on 14th,  and Becky has provided a report of hers and Chris's visit there , which is up on our own  Thames valley website. Thanks for that contribution Becky.

We decided at the meeting, that this years Christmas meal would again be a run out to Milletts Farm Centre,  on Sunday December 10th, and I am in the process of booking the 12.00 noon spot for us.     Previously we have had around  40 in attendance and I would appreciate a show of hands to guage the numbers again please.

We also decided to hold a ride out on Saturday December 30th,    along a planned route on the Berks/Hants border just south of Reading, to blow out some cobwebs before the New Year.      I will try to arrange a fine bright day  ( ! ),   and details of time and location will be available at the November meeting.  All are welcome, tintops too.      Again , an early show of hands will help with planning.

The Classic Car Show takes place at the NEC over the 3day weekend of 27th,28th,29th of October,   and if anybody is looking for Jaguar Spares, you will find those at the Stoneleigh Showground this coming Sunday 22nd Oct.

Next monthly meet is Wednesday November 8th. at the Lambert Arms.  ( and the Ham,Egg and Chips is worth the trip too !! )

Thanks for the wonderful support and enthusiasm that exists in the Thames Valley Area,  see you soon,
