My car has been on the road for 18 months or so - and is now sporting its third dashboard make-over !
I started with a padded red vinyl job, but "Tights" and "Nora Batty" came to mind each time I clambered in. So, as I have a red stripe up through the white bonnet, I hit on the idea of painting a new dash panel that a very kind fellow Hoody had donated to me. The plan was red stripe with white background - looked OK. Sad to say I put a laquer on it - which looked really glossy - but on the white areas - exposure to the sun made it all go very yellowy & dull (blow !). A short term fix of covering up the white bits with black vinyl looked a bit somber.
So, just this last week - armed with an embossed alluminium sheet from B&Q in Northampton and some edging from "Woolies" (not Woolworths !). I managed to create Dashboard Mk III ...............
Mk III Dashboard .....
Shortly after having made the first cuts into the alluminium sheet I bumped into the MD of one of these outfits that make separate instruments that normally cost £400 for a set - he might be able to sort some discount ....... could be dashboard Mk IV is just around the corner !
Here is the first view of ''Dr. Duncs'' next project, the motor cycle engined Locost.
Duncan built one of the first 2b's, distinctive in our group by the yellow edged nosecone and bonnet stripe. He has now started a second build, from scratch, and has some fine tales to tell about sourcing materials and parts, He is more Robinhood than Richard !!!
It must qualify as a lolololocost !!!!

Simon is based in Oxford and making great progress on his Robin Hood 2B Plus (purchased partly built) , being put together with some help from Dad. Such a tidy garage as well !

Following his recent hosting of a Homecall - Paul's progress and enthusiasm has had a lift , he has sent an update for all .... (Looks almost done Paul .... when's the SVA ?).

Next stage?
Goes like this:-
Collect & fit new thermo housing
Fill cooling system
Fit piece of hose twixt feed pipe & pump
Buy & fit battery
Connect battery and quick check of electrics
Put in some fuel
Start engine.
If that little lot works out OK, then it should be running by Thur or Fri,
following which it will be on with the 1st edition dash.
Sounds OK when you say it quick!!!
July 2004
A tragic story now has an increasingly happy end in sight. Graham finished building his DOHC 2B sometime ago - but 4 weeks after finishing it whilst travelling at speed on a dual-carraigeway - his bonnet suddenly opened ! Being an "alligator" bonnet - this was something of a problem . The car was severely damaged and Graham has clearly shown great determination to get the car back into shape ......... an update from him looks very encouraging and he plans for an MOT by the end of September ............... Graham, Good Luck and our Best Wishes - Graham Mintram.
AN UPDATE (17th Sept '04) .....
Graham Bowden of Thatcham, has sent me the good news that The Phoenix has Risen. He has completed the rebuild of his 2b after the write off last summer, and will be on the road really soon. Look forward to seeing you Graham . The BEFORE and AFTER photos ..........
